Rock Creek Country Club welcomes Don & Pete
|
Updated On: Apr 118, 2017 |

Another course off the list as Don and Pete (along with friends Mitch Nosack and Derek Martin) recently played Rock Creek Country Club. The outing came through a gracious invitation from Rock Creek pro Chuck DaSilva, whom we met at the 2016 Portland Golf Show.
We played Rock Creek on what was a typical Oregon spring day in any year. That means we had periods of warm sunshine followed by 10 minutes of showers. That pattern continued until we approached the 16th tee, when we huddled in the nearby restrooms to wait out a 10-minute absolute deluge. Followed, of course, by another 40 minutes to sunshine to finish the round.
Rock Creek is located north of the Sunset Highway just off 185th. The course has always had drainage issues, and given the ultra-wet 2016-17 Oregon winter/spring, we expected some mush. We weren’t frankly, expecting what we found on the back nine, which was virtually unplayable. Never mind the rough, which hadn’t been mown in some time, we collectively lost a dozen or so golf balls that we hit in a fairway.
No blame to DaSilva, they’ve done what they can, he did warn us and we still appreciated the opportunity to play. We’d certainly like to go back sometime when it’s dried out, because we liked the layout. We’ll soon post more details in our Course Reviews section. But thanks to Chuck and the Rock Creek clubhouse folks for a warm welcome and an enjoyable day.
