We. Are. Back.
“Back” is the key word in more ways than one. We’ve been on essentially a year’s hiatus due to Pete’s back — injured, surgery, recovery. But Pete’s back is back, and our “Quest” to play every golf course in Oregon is also officially back on track!
We spent the majority of Memorial Day Sunday playing at Meadowlawn Golf Course in Salem and Golf City just outside of Corvallis. While neither of these course’s are on anybody’s Top 10 list, we were pleasantly surprised by the condition and overall quality of both tracks.
We played Meadowlawn with Phil, an Oregon snowbird recently returned from a winter in Arizona. He was friendly and helpful in guiding us around the course. Meadowlawn is an executive course that plays to a par of 32, the longest hole is around 300 yards. You can score at Meadowlawn, the greens are large and were in excellent condition, running very true. Nobody in front of us at all, it was a fun, quick, 90-minute round.
Golf City “Par 3” actually has one par 4 — No. 8, a 60-yard hole with trees right in front of the tee box that forces you to go left and then pitch up to the green. While the facility isn’t big — total yardage is 801 — the greens are miniscule and firm, so even from 80 to 100 yards out it’s tough to land a ball on a green and keep it there. Golf City also includes an 18-hole putt-putt course, restaurant and bar. The staff was wonderfully friendly and very pleased that they were included on the official Don and Pete “Quest” list. We had a great time.
Look for our official reviews for both courses to be posted soon.
